Projects

Wool felt has many nice properties, but the property that stands head and shoulders above the rest for projects is its sound-absorbing capacity. In addition, the wool felt is naturally non-flammable and dirt and water repellent. Moreover, HOLLANDFELT wool felt is 100% recyclable and sustainable, which is or should be a very important factor in the choices of (interior) architects and designers these days. Because our wool felt can be easily processed and HOLLANDFELT has more than 100 beautiful colours of wool felt, our wool felt is often used in all kinds of projects where the ambiance and appearance are important.

Applications of wool felt in projects

Wool felt is very suitable to use as furnishing because of its acoustic qualities and the fact that Pure New Wool is inflammable. This natural fire resistance even allows for Woolfelt to be used in restaurants, museums, theaters and hospitals.

To make curtains we recommend using wool felt with a thickness of 2mm. Thick enough to regulate cold, heat and light. Pleats are more beautiful in 2mm thick wool felt than in 1mm thick wool felt.

Wool felt can be used on walls and ceilings. We recommend using wool felt with a thickness of at least 3 mm. For optimal acoustic results 5mm thick wool felt should be used.

1mm thick wool felt is used for soft furnishing. In case of higher wear requirements, 2mm thick wool felt can also be used.

(Interior) architecture

Wool felt has the property of improving the acoustics in rooms and is therefore a good choice for ceiling or wall coverings. Wool felt can be glued directly onto walls. First the glue is applied on the walls, then the wool felt is pressed into the glue.

The natural properties of wool felt (non-flammable, insulating, dirt- and water repellent) make it suitable to use in public buildings such as hospitals, theaters, restaurants and museums, even without additional treatments.

Your situation may require even thicker wool felt than 5mm. For the possibilities, do not hesitate to contact us.

Wool felt as wall covering

From a thickness of 3mm, wool felt from HollandFelt improves the acoustics. The sound absorption coefficient can be as high as 0.56α at a thickness of 3mm and 0.82α at a thickness of 5mm, and even 1.03α at a thickness of 10mm. Thanks to these and other naturally occurring qualities, such as insulating and dirt-repellent, wool felt is very well suited for use as acoustic wall covering.

We recommend our special felt glue for gluing wool felt on walls. This is a low-emission dispersion contact adhesive. Here you find more information about our glue.

Wool felt can be glued directly onto walls like wallpaper. To do this, the glue must be applied to the wall on one side with the enclosed structure roller, after which the felt can be pressed directly into the wet glue. Using this textured roller (or a larger roller with the same structure) is important to achieve the correct thickness of the adhesive layer.
After placement the woolfelt should be rolled directly with a solid rubber roller.

If the surface consists of plaster, plaster, stone or wooden panels, the glue can be applied without a primer. You can ignore cracks and holes in walls, but there should not be any humps on the surface.
